The wider goal of Everyday Māori is to create learning content and teach language that can be used in

everyday situations. This courses have been designed to help strengthen your knowledge and understanding

of the language and culture and give you the ability and confidence to use te reo Māori in your daily interactions.

Each course is made up of six modules, which are taught online over a six week period. The content of each course is outlined below. To learn more about the courses, the fees and how you and your team can enrol,

Beginners Level 1

  1. Pronunciation: Learn the basics of pronunciation, including the importance of macrons and vowel combinations.

  2. Greetings and Farewells: Discover common greetings, farewells, proper ways to address people, and other introductory phrases.

  3. Introductions: Master introducing yourself and others, as well as discussing your origins.

  4. Instructions: Acquire the ability to give and understand everyday commands.

  5. Numbers and Dates: Familiarise yourself with numbers, days, months, and telling time.

  6. Culture: Gain insight into key cultural concepts underpinning tikanga Māori, such as pōhiri, mihi, and pepeha.

Beginners Level 2

  1. Describing: Learn to identify and describe everyday objects.

  2. Number Sentences: Master discussing quantity and cost.

  3. Instructions: Enhance your knowledge of instructions.

  4. Active Sentences: Learn to express ongoing actions.

  5. Actor Emphatic Sentences: Learn how to say who will and who did something (Mā wai e…. / Nā wai i…)

  6. Location Sentences: Ask and answer questions about places.
